Depends on what part of the game your in. Staff users I feel are the most widespread generally. Simply because they're almost nessacary to farm with. They're often used as alternate or starter characters to build up ones wealth for another character they wish to main. They have a very high potential in all aspects of the game as a main themselves though. Outdoing or rivaling everyone elses builds in most cases. Also makes a great weapon for tanks and mp charge reliant character hybrids. Very diverse weapon with alot of options.

The next most popular would be swords and then Bowgun (crossbow) users. After that would be a tie between bows and knuckles. At the last place would be magic devices. At least as a main weapon outside of farming.

Then wouldn't the logical conclusion be to answer my question and send me on my way before "flaming" occurs? You already wasted two posts, might as well waste another.

I like the staff "mace of destruction" but really I'm not to sure really, depending on how u play... If u have a Mage and want the most matk out of it then a player made staff with +int and +%int or +%matk on it would be best

This is my personal list of popular weapons. Listed for apps and stats in no order. ( shields and daggers not in list )

    Adel sword
    Relic sword
    Sword of sin
    Bd sword

    Volcano sword
That one grab 2h sword XD

    FW bow

    Warbowgun
    Pistal
    Magic bow gun

    Elflame
    Crystal wings
Ironate ( that one dark element magic device)

    Mace of destruction
    Ooze staff
    Rock staff

    Volcano claws

Popular items are really based on opinion. Don't forget that Blacksmiths can create armor with high pot so you can make your own stats.

I can see why those are popular... And blacksmith just sounds like Ironman.

"He built it in a cave! With a box of scraps!"

Least popular would definitely be 'bare-handed' class

You can technically not equip a main weapon and only use sub weapons. Or entirely bare-handed. You can still attack and use skills / magic, it is a thing ^^

    Oh instances.

    Sword users (1h, 2h, Dual Wield) ---> Staff ---> Crossbow ---> Bow ---> Knuckle ---> Magic Device.

(Don't need to read the paragraphs if you don't want to)
That's across the entirety of the game for instances. From end game to early game instances. It's a muddled mess of popularity for swords though. 1h and 2h typically do the same things (imo), so usually put them together. Dual wield is more popular than both some days...but some days they're not...it's weird...

Endgame looks more like this in my opinion

    Staff ---> Bowgun ---> 2h ---> 1h ---> Dual wield ---> Bow ---> Knuckles (gaining popularity) ---> Magic Device

Opinion as to why I list this. (Don't need to read)
The top 4 or 5 are pretty interchangable popularity wise I think. Staff overcomes Bowgun just slightly in popularity. They're interchangable though. After that it's sword users in veried forms of popularity by the day. Bows, I still see more often than Knuckles. Knuckles are getting more popular as updates and the community cope with how to effectively use them.

Extra on Knuckles and Magic Devices. (Also don't need to read, just on a roll)

I'm convinced that they're late bloomers myself and will turn out like claw monks in Iruna. Extremely viable soloist with good party support and threatening damage as mechanics like (super defense and barriers) come into play. Magic devices will also likely be late bloomers once characters can attain the stats to use them. Or become a support builds best friend, or stay as the AoE king makers they are.

I can guess what the main weapons do but what do magic devices and daggers actually do? What makes bow different from bowguns in terms of playstyle and strengths?

Magic Device as sub will reduce your MP Charge(Magic Skill Tree) time. It will also increase the AoE size of your Magic spells.
As for daggers, honestly, Dagger skill tree is rather a dying sub skill tree. But a lot of players equip Dagger for their bonus stat.
Bowguns have better Dex:Atk conversation (1Dex:4Atk) and deals bonus damage when using Snipe skill. Bow have less damage (1Dex:3Atk) but, iirc, they have better chances to inflict Ailment statuses. And afaik, they have better stability than Bowguns(due to Dex hidden bonus).
