Do guard skill work when equip a shield?

I am currently re-build my tank and I come across a comment that when equiping a shield , guard skill wont work. The post was dated in 2018 and there was no explanation to that claim. So before I spend 20 skill points on heavy arm mastery and advance guard. I would like to hear other opinion on this matter.

 

by default, Guard Rate and Guard Power is 0.
in addition to 10% Guard Rate, Heavy Armor provides 25% Guard Power.
when a Shield is equipped, only 10% Guard Rate are added by Heavy Armor. the value of Guard Power depends on the Shield stats.
this applies even if the Shield has less or no Guard Power at all.

Heavy Armor Mastery increses Guard Rate by 10%.
Advanced Guard increases Guard Rate and Guard Power by 5%.
if you equip a Shield, Advanced Guard will only provide 5% Guard Rate.

it is save to use Heavy Armor Mastery with a Shield, but Advanced Guard is only half as effective.
it is recommended to use Shields with low Guard Rate and high Guard Power for best results.

 

based on your advice, is my calculation correct?

I have a tank cha so Indefinitly need a shield

Heavy arm 10% guard rate
Heavy arm mastery 10% guard rate
Dark gemeral shield 14% guard rate & 30% guard power

= 34% guard rate and 30% guard power.

with guardian skill with +B shield skill = 28% additional guard rate
with Gloria skill lvl 10 = 10% guard rate

so at the end with all buff , I would have 72% guard rate , 30% guard power

Guard power will directly cut down raw damage by 30% is that right?

 

yes.
except that Guard Power is halved for magic damage, and fractional damage attacks cannot be guarded.
