Guardian tank era is over?

With the current trend mobility and short combos are prioritized, moreover, most people uses bow/staff now, I think Guardian is unneeded as a tank anymore?

 

unlike Sanctuary, Guardian moves with the caster. and staff and bowgun wielders can use it too.

 

tank tends to keep distance to dps and vice versal now

 

Guardian is too useful for tanks to not use it, it:

1. Increases tank aggro
2. Decreases party member's aggro connected to it
3. Gives tank +15 ampr for EACH party member connected to it, so +45 ampr if all 3 members are connected
4. Decreases damage received by pt members inside guardian aura

It's also an excellent whole map aggro generator, there's no reason for tank not to take guardian. It also fits perfectly with short aggro combos like starter>fareth(save)>guardian(swift) or starter>meteor(save)>guardian(swift) etc.

 

All only if there are people in range. As I said, bosses are now mostly anti-melee, and tanks also tend to stay away from dps, and vice versal, to avoid getting hit by aoes.
Guardian's animation is getting too slow even with swift, and there are many high mp cost buff skills to gather aggro with. 1mp opener > berserk > fareth is an example. Guardian only generate aggro if there are someone in range when it's activated. This does not always happen. And there're decoy shot to play with. Normally, in circumstances that you need full map aggro, they'll be like the new miku event. A decoy shot is enough, and gives more benefit as well as being more sp-economical.
I've been tanking without guardian recently and things are still going smoothly.

 

Yeah it's true that with this Lfp cf only parties guardian's usefulness is diminished a bit, and yeah you can also tank perfectly even without using guardian, but if the battle is dynamic with the boss moving all over the place then the tank and the bow/staff dps members will still often come close to each other when avoiding aoes, in those moments guardian will still become very useful. Also not everyone is using bow or staff, there are still melee dps out there. Basically if you're planning to make a best tank then guardian is still necessary, but if you're short on sp and just want to be able to tank "good enough" then I guess it's ok to skip guardian.

 

let's all be real, most players rarely go to guardian range specially that parties nowadays are bombarded with bow users making guardian damage reduction and negative aggro to allies useless.

On paper, guardian is good but with the current meta where bow dominates most of the parties, heck guardian became obsolete.

 

Does this works with pets as well (if less than 3 PT members connected)? Even if their HP bar isn't visible anymore at the left side of the screen? Because brave aura does but prioritizes players if all 3 are in aura range.

 

make it use as optional (cuz there some still ppl who use melee class who tend to stay in guardian zone)

dont use it if your party is bow online

there no reason to remove guardian in pure tank because pure tank build is mostly cost low sp build. (only knight build must not have guardian because they need some damage and sp for offensive side)

 

IMO, tanks should be flexible so they can easily adapt in any situations. I agree that tanks should still use guardian in a specific situations. It's not like u should just use 1 combo in every boss u fight. Even any build or class makes different combo for different bosses.

I always party randomly & most of the time the party are consist of different classes. The reason u may feel bow/staff dominate parties is because of those persons who only shout "lfp cf" or "lfm cf" & ur one of those who only accept bow on their parties.

 

I think it also works with pets, but I'm not sure if it still works if you have a full pt and all the pets' hp bars are not visible

I usually play my 2H more than my BG as I like playing 2H more than BG and most of the time that I'm in a party, it always have a composition of 2-3 Bow players. I rarely make invites and would eather to join than to make one unless there is no other choice.

 

Eh ur lucky then, I rarely got a party with Bow players. Some of those random players I had partied before are partly BS I guess, they doesn't even make a decent amount of damage XD.
