How do you deal with boss aoe spam as a mage?

Sup yall. I have a question, like the title says. To elaborate, when fighting bosses, some of them, if not the most I've seen have a move that implicitly targets low aggro players/secondary targets which usually end up being mages. How do you deal with a boss that is about to 1 shot you while you're stuck in an unreasonably prolonged animation and can't even cancel it to move. What's even worse is like on the higher end of Dex it doesn't seem to really speed up the cast times a whole lot which is counter intuitive, why would you have a stat for cspd when it basically pseudo-caps out at mid levels. Judging by the RNG aoe spam that bosses have nowadays, it seems to me that mages are inherently disadvantaged and need to come up with workarounds to an inherently flawed class/PVE design (I can't seem to find patterns for their movements and skill moves to formulate an efficient rotation and mechanics play for the bosses, which could be just me, but it seems bosses randomly spam aoe attacks, making even 2 second casts unreasonably risky). This is how I observed the situation and would like to know if it's true, if it's not and/or if there is anything that can be done about it (Like is there a playstyle for mages that maybe I don't get? Is there some basic requirements that a mage must always meet before fighting a boss? Is there an actual rotation/mechanics play etc. )

You use mirage evasion or any iframe skill available for your mage. ^_^
