How does the pet system work?

Heeeeello, I would like to know how to improve my pet's actions.
He has enough str and not 1 lvl, but the attack is still 1.
what does it depend on?

I would also like to know about the skills of pets. I upgraded a couple of skills to lvl 2 and turned them on, but I can't figure out if they work at all.
You know, I just don't feel like anything is changing because of the pet.

 

power is the pet's weapon atk. every time it gains a level there's a 25% chance to increase power by 1. (unless power exceeds the pet's level.)
pet fusion takes the sum of both pets powers.

affinity multiplies exp gain and also directly affects the pet's actions in combat.
pets act whenever possible and use skills as soon as enough mp becomes available.
with 10% affinity you only have a 10% chance to perform an action.
