I'm trying to figure out how much HP to aim for on my DPS characters, is there an achievable cap to shoot for that will let me survive any survivable (non-1hit ko) attacks? I was thinking around 10k HP? It seems to me that most boss hits don't do more than 6-7k to my tank.

Also, which Revita and what percentage do people have their auto heal set to? I'm currently using the 4000 HP Revita and I have it set to heal at 50% health.

Don't compare tank received damage to dps. Tank has defensive stats to receive such minimal damage, dps on the other hand should avoid soaking damage as much as possible.

If you are good at dodging some attacks then you don't need that much HP but if you get hit a lot then invest more on survivability stats rather than more damage. 10k hp on dps is already good.

For myself I think I'm aiming for 15k+ hp on my physical dps. As the game progresses bosses are only getting stronger, so I figure more hp the better. I don't want to always be that glass cannon player dying a lot. Can't do any damage if you are dead.

All my DPS chars have around 5k HP (i skipped ornlaf xtal and just go by lvl 8/9 hp food). 5k HP seems enough to take an occasional boss auto attack that can't be manually avoided. Don't expect to survive any (avoidable) AOEs with 5k though!

Also, all my dps chars battle with -100 aggro (lvl 8 food + neo maton), which is also rather helpful to avoid taking hits :D

I mean, I try to avoid as much damage as possible, but especially with my mage if I get caught in the middle of a finale cast and get hit I'm dead. I'd just like to be able to survive at least one hit from most things in case I make a single mistake, rather than end up dead and waiting to revive. And Tank was the wrong word choice, I just put HP equipment on my DPS mage to test how much damage Venena would do to me.

Agreed, I always feel useful when I'm the one dead player on the team.

honestly it depends on how comfortable you are with fighting bosses, along with how often you get hit in general. I stick with 6k personally.
With fractionals it can be kinda a hassle with high HP values and trying to heal off all the damage, and there are great ways of defending yourself already with some weapons (Meteor, Zentei, Magadachi) and repositionals to get you away from danger (Shadowstep, Backstep, even Shukuchi)

i would say with a medium understanding of how bosses move and attack, you can work with 5k-10k HP. For classes that tend to stay in one place or constantly be in enemy lines (Mage/Knuckles/Unarmed) you can always stand for higher HP and having a shield with P.Def can help out too if you want to invest in it.
Later on that might change to be bigger, but as you get better the less HP you'd practically need.

I really think finale mages should invest in vit more. My Finale build at lv200 is Int:275 Vit:247. Matk: around 4k Hp: 32k with food buff. With this I can stand to get hit with 3-4 meteors from Venena before dying. I also take magic resistance food lv8 (32%) and use a shield that give 10%.

ANY survivable attacks? From my experience when fighting Seele and Mega alpaca lots of times, I guess the answer would be around 20k hp

Well, you could survive any attacks with damage nullification skills/invincibility frame like p. Def.

As far as HP concerned, without those skills and no extra resistances, even 30k hp wouldn't be enough. For tanks, unless its not a sure fatal damage like zahhaks fatal laser, any magic/physical attacks are manageable, even p. Avatar's magic damage magadachi. Its mostly due to the high amount of resistance.

Another example of magic damage thats fatal without resistance are seele zauga's spirit bomb. Here's a video of it on nightmate difficulty:

I have 125% magic resistance on the video. You could see that it will be fatal for most dps class without resistances. Resistance serves better for survivability compared to maxhp, so if you want to survive most magic/physical attacks, I would say its about 10k with 50% magic/physical resist. You would survive ultimate difficulty Venena's meteor at the very least. But not so much for somethinh like seele's magic aoes.

How much resistance is needed for 20k hp? And what difficulty is it?

as for me i put 50 vit on all characters. Yes, its kinda overkill, but you can be more reckless during ult or nm. * 50 vit with level 8 max hp food buff. Sometimes, you can soak damage quite well for example pillar aoe on ult. All my dps char has +10k of hp

The question is broad so I’ll try to be objective...... the answer to this question depends on three factors
    1)character build
    2)play style
    3) type of boss

these factors have a bearing on how many hp you should have.

If you’re using a close range melee type build then it’s obvious that you will get hit more and more hp would make it possible to survive longer , however with invincibility skills a melee build can take risks even though they are in the direct path of boss attacks. While a long range distance build may get away with having minimal hp because they are normally away from boss attacks and getting hit is very rare so they can use their slots for more damage to be efficient, however even with that said long range builds that use finale suffer from long cast times and runs a high risk during combat and they may need more hp just to be comfortable in battle.

Now the use of invincibility skills brings us to play style , even at close range a player can avoid all damage all together making it possible to fight bosses and even solo beating them with 1hp for the majority of the battle. I saw a youtuber did this solo at ornlarf ultimate using katana and it was impressive to watch. So now more and more players are doing this 1hp challenge , so with moves like p.def, meteor breaker, dive impact, Zantei Settetsu and elegant poise (which is total rubbish) can potentially be spammed without fail and making it possible for a player to last really long on minimal hp, but that’s if a player can handle such an intense playstle especially against fast bosses. So this would be based on personal choice.

As for bosses some bosses have linear and straight line attacks making them easier to read and avoid, however others spam a lot of aoe that targets all players even multiple ones within a small area and therefore the probability of getting hit is high , so again a player may need a buffer just in case they can’t avoid all of them.

So with that said I will state what I would use to make myself comfortable with various builds ....
knuc (close range), halb , swords ( 1h,2h,ds)- 10-15k hp
Knuc (long range), bow/bow gun , katana - 1000-4500 hp
Mage and tanks - 15k hp minimum

as for heal items I vary depending on battle so that’s just something u gotta play around with

the best amount that will make you not getting one shot all the time would be around 6000 to 8000 hp.

besides from that there are many factors that can change a boss dmg so it's hard to say you will survive either way.

The thing with vit is that it scales with your level so it is good, the higher level the better it is. The thing with resistance is that it reduces the damage you take- which also reduces the HP you need.

    I agree with this.

Having around 6k-8k is pretty reassuring IMO since it isn't that low or high, but just enough to protect you from most bosses attacks.

Really is difficulty for say how much, but the best is have more resistance that you can get.for.equipment and skills.
