finale scales mainly with int so just get 255 int and you would be fine ( ofc get im10i20 gear for ez 1m dmg)

Magic Arrows is the most powerful and cost-efficient 1mp skill at the beginning. no physical skill can hold up to it.
MDs are slightly more powerful, but Staves compensate with higher weapon attack.

Javelin is for ailments, even though it gets a power boost on staff, physical skills do more with 2mp.
MDs have a clear advantage here.

Wall is mostly a defensive attack.
MDs are better again for the increased range. the power bonus on Staves is good but the difference becomes less significant in the later game.

at lv30 you get access to the strong skills and also Wizard skills, which don't differentiate between Staff and MD.

Lances is the strongest single-target magic and also the strongest magic attack overall, until lv150.
like for Arrows, MD has a slight advantage.

Blast is the most powerful AoE magic, until lv150. it has high power with Staves, but for AoE and ailments MDs get the better effect of it.

Familia boosts matk based on your level, increases maxMP and additional magic. since this is a constant effect on both weapons, MDs benefit more from it than Staves.

Blizzard is a large and cheap AoE, very good for Staves, not so much for MDs.

Lightning is a free and strong attack, but very slow. it works well as combo ender and you can put smite on it with no drawbacks.

    lv70 unlocks more utility skills.
Storm is an upgrade to Wall. instead of pushing monsters away from you, it draws them into the target location.
the power boost on Staves makes it usable as an attack skill, but it's not stronger than Blast, and Lances does more damage to a single target.

Impact is purely utility, although MDs can use it for attack as well.

Meteor is like Blast with the Staff and MD bonus combined, but the hit rate is terrible.
it's too unreliable to be used as attack skill.

Holy Light deals similar damage to Javelin, it's only good for it's healing effect and MDs get more of that.

Staves can utilize sub weapons for more powerful physical attacks, but none of those are stronger than magic skills.

Thing is, with magic skills, you won't ever beat a physical dps build with the same effort.

Physical attackers gain additional multiplicative benefit from critical damage to an extent far exceeding magical attackers (who need 4x more effort).

For low budget, trying to gain magic multiplier damage from crit damage does not work and as such, you have to go the route of maximizing mark.

With mirage evasion, you can dodge whilst casting finale so finale is still a viable dps for now, until magic burst passes it when the skill constant becomes irrelevant.

NB: all magic skills besides magic impact and magic storm are completely useless when you hit lv150. Magic Lance's is nice for a sentry turret setup damage but it is still low relatively speaking.

So your only dps skills really are magic finale, which is more burst damage than dps and magic burst. To boost the damage of these two, you need high INT (which gives multiplier boost) and high MATK (comes from INT and DEX as well as equipment and staff/MD refine)

You can buff MATK from magic mastery passive (for staff and MD in magic skill tree).

Just because pre 150 skills are shit doesn't mean you can't use them for something. In a party, you can use them to setup magic turrets to prorate the damage of your party, not that the game would reward you for it tho. And Guardian Beam is nice to provide some side damage whilst casting.

Lastly, after high MATK and high CSPD, you want magic pierce.

    Good luck.
