Rebuilding my mage character and I was looking into my secondary stat. Previously I had it as DEX, but that was before mages could crit. Even back then it would've probably been better to go STR since all I used was Finale. I'm still planning on using Finale but looking into damage it looks like CRT may be the way to go. With STR I get some extra damage, but only crit around 25% of the time. While with full CRT my damage is reduced, but only by a bit, and I crit about 50% of the time. I did the math and on average it seems the DPS will be higher using INT>CRT. Thoughts?

i think you need to see if you can get the dmg on your equips with dex stat, then use crit rate equips instead of crit stat, idk if you can get dmg with dex to change your equips, but at least try to see on coryn club

str is good for hard battles (nightmare/ultimate or high diff events) as you can use more than 1 finale

the magic tree itself uses only INT.
so sub-stats should depend on you sub weapon/skills.

There is no need to use CRT. If you intend to go on as crit mage, you only need 134 crit rate + Spellburst + Weaken ailment (not including crit resist). This way, you could fully capitalize crits by increasing your critical damage using Str as secondary stat. The catch is, if you don't crit, your crit damage stat becomes useless. For example, Pyxtica have a mode that makes crit rate essentially useless, but we have our ways around that and these bosses aren't that many, at least not right now.

On the other hand, if you use Dex as secondary stat, you'll have easier time increasing your total MATK but crits won't be as satisfying even if they come.

If you're so intent on using CRT. you may crit a lot but you don't have enough crit damage to completely take advantage of this. In addition, it'll be easier to get more crit rate by equipping items with crit rate (flat). If nothing is really stopping you from using CRT, then you will benefit a lot from %crit rate (not flat). The best example of said equipment is Curious Dress which doubles your base crit rate so if you have that, you get 200 crit rate right away. That or you can focus on crit damage stats on your equipment to compensate for this shortcoming.

    Edit: Last part

So my current plan was 371 INT, 255 CRT.

6th Anniv Staff VI +S (Irestida)
    MATK 10%
    Critical Damage 5%
    Critical Damage 21
    INT 10%
    Critical Rate 23

    Adventurer's Garb +S (DX Fighter)
    Critical Rate 24%
    Critical Damage 20
    Critical Damage 10%
    Critical Rate 24
    INT 10%

Sakura School Cap +S (Underwater Ruins Monster)
Machina Ring (Black Shadow, Star Wizard)

Between Food, Potions, and Passives I'm at:
    MaxHP 15354
    MaxMP 2000
    MATK 5530
    Magic Crit Rate 50%
    Magic Crit Damage 198

Using the calculator on Coryn, and then averaging out how often my crits would hit damage comes out to
    7741 for STR
    7351 for DEX
    7998 for CRT
