New Katana user

Hey, after I leveled my Samurai a little and tried a few things out I got a few questions.
1) I am using Machina Ring 2s with Odelon in 1 slot. Should I pick Goovua or a MP Xtal (e.g.Venena) as the 2nd one? Background: I got ~900MP in total (MP Boost from survival tree included). And how much help are those 100 unsheathe atk anyways?
2) Right now i have leveled Zantei to 10 and Magadachi to 5. During mq (so „soloing“ the bosses) I didn‘t feel the need for Magadachi since I always had aggro. Now where I played in a couple of partys I find it quite annoying to always run in to the bosses attack circles to use Zantei. My Magadachi hits when critting from anywhere between 100k and 300k. Which of those skills do you use and would you advise me to level Magadachi to 10 as well?
3) The last one is MP recovery between boss fights. I don‘t have MP Charge but nevertheless I think 8sec for 210MP won‘t help much here. I feel like Katana needs full or at least a lot of MP before the fight starts to deal decent amounts of damage before Mages finish him. What is your solution?

This is mainly for 150+ so if you're <150 then disregard.

1) The second xtal you use is up to you. I use venena because I prefer the 500 extra MP over the extra unsheathe damage (and a little more damage really doesn't go very far since no one in this game knows what proration is and you'll end up doing 10-30k tenryus with 4 stacks). Most people get around the MP drop from tenryu spam by using decoy shot (lvl10 decoy shot goes a long way). If you feel like your mp is depleting too fast then I would choose venena.

2) You should choose the skill based on the boss you're fighting and based on your party. Magadachi is the most reliable way of getting tenryu buff but if you have aggro then you'll want to use zantei. If you're fighting venena body and her red aoe doesn't get interrupted, then you'll want to use zantei. If you're fighting ornlarf and you don't have aggro then you'll probably want to use magadachi BUT you can always stand in red aoe and cast zantei.

3) I have 1 point into MP recharge and equip a staff when I need to recover MP. Makes the 9s cast time into ~4 seconds.

 

Thank you very much, never thought about quickly equipping a staff. Honestly I never bothered much with Decoy Shot untill now. But is it useful for Katana since main ampr comes from shukuchi and not normal auto atks?

 

Shukuchi adds some ampr but when youre spamming tenryu for dps you don't really regain any MP from autoattacking. Decoy shot will get you that mp even though decoy doesn't benefit from ampr gained from buffs. It makes a huge difference if you have a lot of mp. It's very useful on bosses that aren't mobile. Bosses that move a lot, youll mainly rely on kairiki and shukuchi to gain mp.

 

If you rely mainly on tenryuu you dont really need to max lvl zantei, even a lvl 1 zantei will deal the same damage as a lvl 10 one as long as you have the tenryuu buff and it becomes tenryuu zannou, as for mp just like kalxie said if you have lvl 1 mp charge you can change to staff or md between boss fights to shorten your charge and switch back to katana again, using red purple gelatin also helps in regenerating mp, I often use it both during boss fights and in between boss fights, its also quite cheap in the cb

 

I didn‘t skill Kaikirie untill now. Does it make auto atks without shukuchi viable for ampr? And is it even worth the sp if you don‘t have garyo?

Oh and does someone know how much those 100 unsheathe attack from Goovua „are“? Like what is the base unsheathe attack and so on, to give some context how much that number is.

 

Kairiki is great since it gives you attack and ampr. If you can manage to fold in 1 auto per 1/2 tenryus, it gives you a good amount of mp back. Even if you don't use garyou it help a lot with mana management. You can get around the ignite debuff by using recovery before it (stargem lv 10 if youre rich, otherwise lv 1 will do).

Well I saw video by Arewzo compare Goovua and Donyeti
U may check it on youtube btw cus i forgot the numer

But my point is better take MP Xtal like venena if u use 2s ring
Or Put ifrid if you have 2s armor then change venena with goovua for more atk or other xtal
900mp is too small in my opinion

 

Using Ifrid would be ideal, but sadly I do not own the resources atm to afford a 2s armor and I am really enjoying Ornlarf in the slot I have. Thank you, I will check the video out!

 

Yeah, I immediately decided to use don yeti xtal on top of my odelon xtal for my machina ring after watching that video lol, the -1000 attack speed doesn't affect katana users since the tenryuu buff already removes the delay between our autoattacks as well as making tenryuu stack's motion speed faster
