Phantom Slash Cancel?

Dw newbie here. I wanna ask if canceling my phantom slash immediately after casting to do more shadow steps will do more damage. The combo I use is impact > Phantomslash(smite) > Shadowstep(cons).

 

if you put smite on phantom slash, you shouldn't cancel it.
cancelling might be useful if you put it on save, since it wouldn't deal much damage anyway.

 

why not? when you're out of the PS animation, you can do auto attacks to get some mp back, so you can use the combo again. faster animation = faster attack = more damage

 

yes, but smite doesn't reduce mp cost and decreases damage of the follow-up skill. cancelling PS will spend mp to deal no damage and reduce the damage of shadowstep.
if you put it on consecutive, you will spend less mp, shadowstep will be stronger and you can use it more often.

From what Ive been doing if u cancel the phantom slash u still get full damage but u can move.

 

I don't have the event weapons. No one seems to want to run the event bosses with me . But I'll keep this idea in mind thx!

 

Yep that's what I think as well, but I don't see any dw build recommending this (mostly shadowstep spam) which confuses me. If I cancel phantomslash wouldnt I get phantomslash damage and shadowstep spam at the same time?

 

juz cancel ps whenever possible unless u dodge stuff u get more dps out of it since ps will deal 12hit even if u cancel it

Nope, shadow step unsheathe autos are not. The skill just reseathes your weapons upon casting, making the follow up auto attack an unsheathe. Since it is an auto, it isn't affected by tags.

Also, if you enable Flash Blast before you initiate your combo, Flash Blast's damage via Shadow Step Activation, isn't also affected by tags. So it's a free damage line. However, it's affected by proration. If you're main goal is having your post Shadow Step Basic Unsheathe attack to do more damage, that's the way to go.

Impact (+1 to Basic, + 1 to Phy, -1 Magic) > Phantom (+1 to Basic, - 1 to Phy, +1 Magic) > Shadow Step with Flash Blast proc (+1 to Basic, - 1 to Phy, +1 Magic) > Use Auto Attack (-1 to Basic, + 1 to Phy, +1 Magic)

So if you use that combo at the start of the battle, without any preparation at all.. You'll have +3 for Basic Attack before any Basic Attack you do. +1 for the Phantom Slash too. You can modify and use 2-4 Basic Attacks before you initiate the combo to have a higher damage output.
