I'm still rather new into the game and still unable to maximize my dps mage potential. So i was thinking of utilizing the damage drop off system.
Any skilled mage here have a trick to share? :D
I only have one idea at the moment. Opening my combo with smash to flinch then link it with holy fist and probably a dagger skill too. Then finally a smitted storm. Will it be effective?
Oh and if i ever gonna learn holy fist, does the skill worth spending 10 skill points? Cause i still have 10 SP left (15 when i have reached Lv80)

One point in Holy Fist is good enough. The good thing about it (and possibly other spells) is that, if you're in range after casting Storm, it hits before Storm gets to land the first hit, "negating" the dropoff caused by Impact.

Did you mean i should put holy fist after storm in the combo? You mean the animation of holy fist will be faster than storm first hit?

Yes, and generally, it will. You can also make a brawler mage and use some skills from the brawler tree before Storm to boost its damage, but that's uncharted territory for me.

Imo only use holy fist if ur soloing, in a pt it wont really matter especially if some members are physical, the proration counts for the whole pt, but i dnt use it because i like a fast combo but its how i like it so its up to u

I agree though. Just like my last pt againts mezza. The brawler and snipe rushing at the boss and started spamming attack and skill. About 2sec im joinning with impact storm wall combo and i already gotten the damage drop off.
We killed her about 30sec and i keep winning the attacker. So i guess i'll be using more than one strategy depending on the situation, boss, and my pt member ;)

my Magical Ninja specializes in using the damage drop-off:
    http://toramonline.com/index.php?threads/magical-ninja.6018/

Throwing Knive is a free (at Lv10) ranged attack that counts as a physical skill.
if you throw lots of knives until the enemy moves into your staff range, then hit it with the staff a few times, you will have scored lots of hits with physical and weapon attacks. then your magic damage will be greatly increased. depending on how often you hit, the damage increase can go above 200%.
or 300% if you score a critical hit (does not work for magic, but for staff attacks).

    Late reply
Whoa, both are interesting build  i'll give it a try when i have some free time. Besides i'm kinda interested with the dagger skill. And that trick on the vid tho, pretty neat for soloing :D

That's Libra. It look like a book but it's actually a staff. And it seem that he used dagger in the sub.

This is how to increase ur damage dealt.
"There are 3 types of attack : Normal attack, Physical skills , Magic skills. But if you continue the same type of attacks, the damage dealt may gradually decrease. enemies get used to the attack and it becomes less effective. but it might be a chance. when enemies get used to the attack, the defense against other types of attacks gets weak. so if an enemy get used to the normal attack. you can deal more damage than usual with physical and magic skills. Well, not all enemies get used to the attacks. so you should change the type of attacks when u feel the damage dealt decreased" - Adventurer at Library

    libra looks like a book?!
    i must have one ...
(need to upgrade my synthesis skills)

the damage drop-off for throwing knive works pretty fast.
if you mix it up with some normal attacks, it takes only 10 seconds and your magic damage will be doubled.
(actually the drop-off is individual for each monster, but for most of them it works like this)

EDIT: i tested this with my ninja on King Potum, Dark Mushroom and Colon Commander.

The skills in particular you should try are Throwing Knife, Holy Fist, Assault Attack, and possibly Smash from the Brawler skill tree. They are all quick, physical skills with minimal cost. Other than that, just be sure to use a normal attack or two before you use a Magic skill or combo.

Also keep in mind the composition of your party. Continuing on what @BK. said, the damage drop-off is per monster, not per player. So a party full of physical damage dealers will quickly increase the physical resistance of the enemy, so you won't need to use physical skills to prime the enemy to physical skills. It's also imperative to your party that you use plenty of magic skills, because not only do you take advantage of damage drop-off, you help increase the damage of your allies for the same reason they are increasing your damage.

    Hope this helps!

its staff + arrow. Shot got loads of useful skills : slow, paralyze, blind, long range tumble, and stability buff. On top of that, super fast animation!

Yes, i've just leveled my char and got some free skill points to use. I'm gonna try learning the skills you stated then. Smash and holy fist have been quite useful so far. And hey i have been following your dps build when i was started the game :D

Oh and one question. I was thinking of using shield bash on my combo. Stunning the boss before casting storm so it wont move out of the storm range (like roga). What do you think? Will this trick be effective?

Oh arrow xD the animation looks like like the knife skill. And yes, that trick look pretty fast and safe. Look so fun to use. I'll try the build on another char when i've done with my current char.
