    Hello Everyone!

I have done some research and know everyone has their own preferred combos that they like to use. I've seen some truly unusual ones like ad lib from the minstrel tree being integrated into an attack.
Truth is, even though I've watched a TON of yt videos, I am a newbie that doesn't know what to look for in making a good combo. (I don't even have every branch unlocked!)

If you wouldn't mind, can you guys give me your opinions on a few combos that you think are important for a katana wielder? Also, can you include WHEN to use said combos?

My end goal here is to solo or at least do my part in a party. I've heard from guildmates that success requires both equipment and skills...and I feel like combos are important for the skill portion.

    Thanks in advance!

p.s. I apologize if a similar question has been asked elsewhere, I could not find after searching :)

I don't play katana but my 2h uses ad-lib. Most dps use it as a combo opener bc the animation is fast and since it's a buff skill it won't ruin proration, not to mention the mp is low cost too.

First you need to know the basics of the combo tags and combo slot. Like how much mp it takes for a combo to activate, and how much the damage with each slots from the tags used. Proration is also incluced.

Then in relation to the practical use of them, you need to know how much your combo duration is and adjust accordingly to the fights. Don't use a long, train combo if mobility is what you need

Katana itself doesn't need much combo as it mostly uses skills manually. Tenryuu ransei, magadachi, zantei settetsu all used manually. You can use a combo for them but ita not exactly the best thing to do as katana is played reactively given the situations. The combo used is usually for Decoy shot combo and buff combo consists of flash blast/kairiki ranshin/godspeed wield.

    P.Def > Godhand (Save) > Guardian (Consec)

    Good for Crusher Tank.

Combos for Katana are really situational and the more you play, the more you'll be able to customize the combos to suit your own playing style. Combos also vary depending on the boss you're fighting and a lot of katana skills are best used without a combo, especially considering how katana builds are generally glass cannon builds. Like someone else said, pretty much all of the main katana skills are used manually (e.g. tenryu, magadachi, zantei, pulse blade, and pommel strike).

    A couple of combos:
Kairiki -> Flash Blast (Swift) - for non GSW builds or if you're going to manually cast GSW
Kairiki -> GSW (Swift) - for maintaining kairiki and 3x stacks of GSW
GSW -> Kairiki (Save) -> Flash Blast (Swift) - 1mp combo for maintaining buffs, pretty situational
Bouncing Blade/Magic: Impact/Ad Lib -> Garyou Tensei (Smite) -> Finale (Smite) - atypical big garyou combo for any situation
Ad Lib/Bouncing Blade/Reflex -> Decoy Shot (Swift) - atypical decoy set-up (I prefer the high mp cost/short combo trade off compared to using a 1mp decoy setup)

    I've seen people use:
Ad Lib/Bouncing Blade/Reflect -> Decoy Shot (Save) -> Flash Blast (Swift) -> Kairiki (Swift) - 1mp decoy + buff setup. I'm not a fan of long 1mp combos for setup since they usually lead to you dying but it's an option for certain bosses and party play.
Magic: Impact -> Tenryu Ransei (Smite) -> Finale (Smite) - It's an okay combo for the small magic proration + big number tenryu but I don't really know if using a smited tenryu is better than just hitting tenryu twice.
Kairiki/Meikyo -> Garyou (Smite) -> Finale (Smite) - same as the atypical garyou combo. Some people need Meikyo to 100% crit Garyou since it has a -10 crit at lvl 10.
Bouncing Blade/Magic: Impact/Ad Lib -> Garyou Tensei (Smite) -> GSW (Consec or Swift) -> Kairiki (Consec or Swift) - big garyou followed by buff refresh. I think it's a good combo. You can probably use it during bosses when you have a tank. Might be viable while soloing if you find the opportunity (there's some cases where bosses have long attack animations ). You're probably better off manually using Garyou and refreshing Kairiki+GSW with a different combo.

Don't get caught in the mentality that long 1mp combos are the best option. That'll just lead you to being dead.
