    • Basic mage stat is Int>Dex.
    • Crit mages go Int>Str (to increase crit damage).
    • Farmer mages go Int>Luk. Remember, prioritize main stat first otherwise you can't kill efficiently.
    • There are several mage builds. There are the very ordinary Int>Dex mage, crit mages, Burst build, Nemesis build, generic mage farmer, ninja farmer, and other I may have missed.
    • Don't spread out your stats and skill points. Focus on two stats at most, otherwise you'll suffer in the long run because those are very limited.
    • You can make other characters in the same account sharing all the inventory and equipment, emblems, etc. No need to make an all-rounder character.
    • Prioritize main skill tree. Lv10 MP charge is a must for mages since newcomers can't buy stargems yet.
    • Magic do not rely on crit rate to hit. Magic won't "Miss", but it can be guarded. If the enemy moves away from a 'placed skill', then the magic will naturally "miss".
    • You don't have to max every single skills you pick up. Level 5 is enough to unlock the next skill you want/need to learn.
    • Do your main quest.
    • Do your daily potum darts. You can get shop items if you are lucky enough.
    • Always watch and learn enemy attack patterns. Recklessly casting skill will get you killed on high level fights.
    • Starting from Eerie Crystal, start your boss fights on Easy Mode.
    • Escape the fight, then go back to the boss and check the boss menu. Tap the arrows to change difficulty.
    • Level 70 unlocks tier 3 skills.
    • Level 7 Impact is instant cast.
    • Storm is your best skill before tier 4.
    • Level 150 unlocks tier 4 skills.
    • Finale builds are much cheaper compared to Burst build. At least the basic ones.
    • You need at least 7,750 cspd to instant cast a basic Burst combo.
    • Maximizer Lv10 is a must for quick mp after you cast MP Charge.
    • Tier 3 Guard Skill is unlocked at level 180.
    • You are always in danger whenever you cast a skill, especially before you unlock Mirage Evasion.
    • Your stat priority are Matk%, Int%, Critical Rate, Critical Damage, Magic Pierce, and Cast Speed.
    • You don't need to focus on cast speed if you're not a Burst Mage.
    • You don't need to focus on crit damage if you're not using a crit mage.
    • 100 (flat) crit rate is needed to prevent your normal attacks to "Miss". More is needed if you're up against enemies with crit resist.
    • Magic Pierce is useful against enemies with high defense. For example, Zahhak Machina.
    • Ultimate mode bosses have higher defense stats.
If the others are reading this, please correct and add some stuff you may or may not find here.

any attack that does not have a chance to inflict a status ailment will cancel your spellcasting if it hits you. this happens mostly in the early game as ailments become more common in the late game.
enemies have attack cooldowns, if you avoid one attack and start casting immediately after you should be fine.
ideally you want to have a party member cover you. (pets can also help)

magic has the most powerful skills in the early game. don't worry about matk, you'll want cast speed.
this changes in the late game, when physical attacks catch up with speed and critical damage.

the power difference between Staff and MD comes from their weapon atk.
MDs currently have similar problems to Knuckles. eventually they'll get an exclusive skill tree to fix that, but they just started planning it so don't expect anything any time soon.

INT the best stat for magic. then it's basically DEX, but MDs can also use AGI.
other stats depend on your sub weapon and skill trees.
Staff can use VIT for shields, STR for daggers, AGI for knuckles, DEX for arrows.
    MD with AGI for scrolls.
(those are just suggestions. you can do whatever you want, as long as you don't neglect INT)

CRT is only good for hybrids (physical) and if you have Spellburst. (usually both).
MTL does not prevent spell cancel, so it's mostly for tank/support builds.
LUK is the best choice when the other two don't suit you.
TEC is only for production skills.

2nd tier skills (Lances and Burst) are the strongest attack magic before 4th tier skills.
3rd tier Storm is useful but not stronger than Blast. Lances surpasses both, but it's single target only.

Wizard Skills use 75% matk and 25% atk. the skills that are casted by the familiar (Blizzard, Lightning, Meteor and Stone Barrier) have fixed cast times unaffected by cast speed.

the 'invincible' combo tag does not take effect during cast and charge times, but 'tough' does.

I would definitely avoid going for magic pierce (as a priority) since I tried getting around 70%, even got all 3 avas with it. End result? I mean great, not I hit bosses not 2m but 2.1m (like finstern and such) perhaps on some rare occasions it would be useful but not as far as getting magic pierce specific equips. Just my opinion though, as i scrapped the build almost straight away after testing for a few days

For a new player, definitely not a priority. For late game though, it changes a lot of things.

    • As you defeat bosses, assuming you defeat them on normal difficulty, check your inventory to see if you have Crystas (diamond shaped gems that can be blue, red, green, yellow, purple, gray). Those are really the only things you should keep unless they drop a weapon or something you like with better stats than what you have. The Crystas (Xtals) might be worth some spina, especially the ones bosses from way later on in the story drop. Check the Consignment Board and search the Crysta's name to see if it's worth anything. If not, just sell it at the npc shop.
    • Sell your inventory at the npc shop, most all of it it is going to be junk anyway. Even if it's an item that you like, if you not going to equip it, write it's name down somewhere and sell it. You can go back and get it later. Equipment Inventory space becomes very scarce, so dont hoard things you don't need.
    • Lock your equipment and other items that you use until it's time to get rid of them. Dont want to mass sell them accidentally.
    • Orb Spending Priority: For the most part, you can make it through the game without using your Orbs to expand your Bag and Bank. But later on, especially as you build more characters, that equipment space gets really tight. The general rule is to use your orbs on things that will benefit you in the long term (like inventory expansion) but if you don't care for that, you can spend Orbs on Avatars (Though I recommend waiting for banners with 1 Orb/1 Pull ratio, Sales (Half off 10 Pulls), and Avatar Guaranteed to have things you like before throwing your Orbs at them). Fashion aint cheap in Toram

    • If you don't care about efficiency, your first character will be your "Fun" Character... that is to say, you're going to delete it eventually and rebuild it later once you have a better understanding of skills and game mechanics/playstyles.
    • I say that, because the reset books you get early on should be saved and preserved for as long as possible. It depends on how far you take that first character. If you're able to get your first character to level 150+, I would say that that's an okay point to reset your character, however-
    • The game gets very grindy. You'll have to do a lot of farming to progress (Months worth). And to that end, your second character should probably be a Farming Mage (They are easiest to build). Once your first character is Level 120 (?), all characters on your account will have access to Tier 3 skills. For mages, that means the Storm spell. And for you, that means you can start leveling you a Farming Mage that has the Storm Spell and points in Int and Luk stats (prioritize Int bc you will need some damage, up to 150 should be more than enough then everything else goes into Luk). Later on, you can choose any number of different farming builds but a Luk Mage Storm Farmer will be the easiest and earliest accessible to you without help.
    • Alternatively to that, you can make it a dps to go through the story faster/reach high level with and use the reset book on it to turn it into a farming mage, but again, I would say dont use your Reset Books for as long as possible. You could use your Reset book to turn your Farmer Mage into another type of farmer build that you would enjoy more, for instance.
    • You will unlock a few more Character Slots as you progress. Don't rush off to create a new character and divide your time/efforts between them (unless you really want to). Focus on one at the start (again, to unlock Tier 3 skills, more farming locations, etc.)
    • Use Coryn Club and Youtube Guides. This is for way later on but something you should know for when you reach the point where they become really relevant to you (trust me, you'll know when that is). They're invaluable resources because the game itself doesn't give you any valuable information. You can use them to find good leveling locations/paths, farming spots, builds, items, etc. This forum also counts as one of those resources but you're already here so I don't think I need to tell you that.
This is all stuff that I remember popping up in my early days of the game. Hope any of it helps save you from the missteps I made.
