Unsheathe is a damage modifier for skills classed as „unsheathe“. Mononofu skills (besides Garyou) and Storm Reaper and Charging Slash from dual wield count as „unsheathe“. The effect is a damage increase. „+10% unsheathe attack“ gives a 10% damage increase to all your unsheathe skills.

aside from certain skills (and most katana skills) auto-attacks can become unsheathe attacks under certain conditions:
    - 1st attack when starting a battle
    - follow-up attack after Guard/Evasion (not anymore)
    - attacking with Shukuchi

for katanas, every auto-attack is an unsheathe attack.

Is there an optimum #% for unsheathe? like how srd is best to leave at 30%. ty. hoping to balance the distribution of my unsheathes, srds and atk.

there is no definitive answer to this (unless you are satisfied with plain "42").
neither unsheathe+ nor unsheathe% have a hard cap, so you could stack as much as you can get.
whether the cost is worth the effect depends on what you have, what it will cost and what else you could get. you'd have to do multiple damage calculation for every possible combination and every potential target enemy and/or combat situation.
