Want some advises on tanks

Hi, Im an old player who returned to Toram and just recently, I’ve accomplished one of my chara to reach lv 180.
I also have 2 luk builds and a synthesis, which is alright and all, but since wayyy back in the early game (my last memory was lv cap 75 xD) I’ve been contemplating on whether to make a TANK chara.

of course many answers would be “Yes” and i thought so too, but because of my low self-esteem, It’s STILL undecided.

my positive thoughts:
• Yes, it’s cool and awesome to help pt and be strong sacrifice myself
• It’ll be easier to make pts as bosses so less pt need to wait to find a tank

My negative thoughts:
• BUT WHAT IF I DIE?!
• Im gonna get the hate and won’t invite me to pts
• What if i wasn’t strong enough
• Oh god, the red and blue attacks TERRIFY ME
• OH SH*T, VENENA’S LASERS
• (when i was dps at venena and tank died) HNNGFJDKS THE ARROWS (the aggro target arrows) I CAN’T HANDLE 5 ENEMIES
• once made finale mage shield and I had to take tank role at masked warrior cause other dps did not move; mannnnn the amount of times i spammed P.Defense skill and screamed when MW went berserk mode

so it kept me thinking, is it REALLY a necessity to have a TANK chara?

 

Tank is still a necessity in toram tbh.

Tanks are rare af in venena while leveling tanks are needed.

Me myself has still no tank but planning to make one soon.(got burnt out when i lvl 1-1-200 my bs in 2days trying to catch up in anniv)
But my gf has one and we lvled up together.

If ur gonna be a tank u need to learn the fundamental pattern of the boss ur tanking.

If going tech tank. I recommend getting resist set than ailment since u wont be reaching 100% ailment resist if u got no mtl stat.
My gf is a tech tank and she can tank well with her resist set.

Tabks wont die easily they are hefty af. If u got no mana use the new guard thingie.
U can spam pdef if u have decoy.
As long as u hold the aggro u good.

Learn from the mistakes since they are part of the learning process.

Yes, make one! We need more tank players. I have made a tank character as well, and it’s actually really fun to play! It’s so satisfying when no attack hits your party (masskilling Gopherga, no ice bullets). Most of the time, you’ll never have to worry about finding a party. It’s only a little scary at first when you’re not too familiar with the boss pattern yet, but because of VIT and P.Def, you have so much HP and a lot of chances to figure things out. The only real killer for tanks right now seem to be fractional damage, so if you can avoid those, you’re pretty much fine ♡ Aside from absorbing aggro, protect your party, support them, and prorate boss too ♡

Also, most attacks that would quickly kill dps type characters are just a scratch for a tank, so don’t worry too much! Venena laser still pretty strong though, so I still avoid it...

 

Tanks are crucial in this meta of mindless spamming, but that doesn’t mean you necessarily have to create one yourself. Just because you don’t have one doesn’t mean you’re completely irrelevant. Do you really want to become a tank? It’s not simply taking hits, you know. Understanding how the boss’ AI behaves is just as imperative—its play-style is the antithesis of a glass canon. Not everyone will be a good fit, and that’s fine.

I occasionally find tanks at venena from Normal > Nightmare mode, but it irks me when i have to wait 20-30 min to have the party finally fulfilled with 1 tank, so this made me think a lot.
I am aiming for a pure tank build!
Sure, BS tank will be useful, but after so many days of leveling my sysnthesis's proficieny, I don't really wanna experience the second time xD

I looked up some vids and forums on tanks too and since I'm aiming for a pure tank, I'm contemplated between 1h+shield or knuckle+shield

Thank you, I understand that being a tank isn't merely just taking hits and understanding the Bosses/mobs/mini-bosses movements and skills are crucial, also taking in consideration of aggro, proration and timing.
Honestly, it's just me being scared and even if i had decent HP/DEF when fighting a lower level bosses, I still evade whenever possible just cause I'm scared to die xD

 

Don't get too anxious, it'll be your downfall.

Tanking is actually quite easy once you're used to it; After you've learnt the timing of all the bosses skills and P.Def, then you're pretty much good to go. I suggest looking into a few tanking videos first if you're anxious, but just remember people will understand if you're not going well. I've explained it to several people after being off for 2 years, and they were still ok with me.

If you're new to tanking, I suggest going for sword; It's probably the best one to start off with.

 

..and then, there's this necromancer skill that easily revives fallen players and posts. ^_^

 

one thing to note about the timing/pattern of boss atks are for certain bosses that only show all their moves when meeting certain criteria, like interruption skills(flinch, tumble, stun) and hp% related. as you already know, you dont see venena fire laser at her full lives but only activates on her last life, but the challenge is event bosses, especially the high difficulty event ones. if u can tank those you are pretty much good at the job.
