Need help for my mage

I'm a new player and got a few question about mages and what way is best to progress.

I've been playing solo with mage without OP friend merc and it is very hard to play it IMO.

I'm now lv 158 and trying to lvl up in venena coenubia. I will sometimes die when casting finale, can't really progress MQ either cause of finale casting time.

I'm using mage arrow build and i realize, because my only real dmg skill is finale. I cannot really do anything if I have aggro on monster, while physical dps can move, kite and deal damage at the same time.

How do I use mage so that I can be more effective, is mage only viable at end game? Those crit mage thingy.

My current equip is:
Weapon:Sage Staff+C(Atk120,base 109) 1s Imitacia IM7% Int10
Sub:Crystal Arrow(w.atk10,aggro-20%)
Arm:A.Garb+E IM7% 2s def 7, int+2 and jade raptor
Hat:Ribbon Hairband aggro-20% int 6% agi 4% stab 5%
Ringhilosopher ooze/granny

My current combo consist of finale, storm if finale is not possible, arrow skills as low mp filler.

What is your suggestion for me? What should I change(ex buy weapon, change skill), or is mage is simply unsuitable for newer player? If so what class should I change to?

Mage is newbie-friendly 'class', lowbudget, decent dmg, easy to use; compared to physical classes that need crit, cdmg, decently high atk, aspd etc (aka quite a bit of spina investments)
To succeed as a mage?
You need timing and to know the boss pattern (as everyone does).
For you, as a newbie mage, l would suggest taking shield route, shield provides you with a protection skill (pdef) and there is a shield that provides 30+ matk (coffin shield, halloween event; available rn, best craft it)
Shield is also easier to use than other 3 sub-weapons (dagger, arrow n md), due to variety of combos around, ranged to Melee.
Luckily, reset event is going on rn, if you do wish to make changes? Now is the time.

For dodging?
There is a skill in guard tree(mirage evasion), that allows u to slide away from an area once every 10-19s (depends on lvl, 19s = lvl 1, 10s = lvl 10)
It is quite convenient not only for finale but other skills that have cast time too!

Last advice?
Read(see) and understant boss pattern, that helps in timing alot!

Well, you can "kite" enemies while casting finale using mirage evasion (Tier 3 Guard Skills). Also, your equipments seems decent for leveling your character until capped (depends on party though). Lastly, try to rely to tanks, if you're really irritated about boss having aggro on you... maybe you should try using sneak or even making a tank or semi-tank character (int>vit or vit>tec) it's your choice on how ya adapt~ Goodluck further~

 

Oh by the way, if you don't wanna rely to people that much... Use your another character as a "defender" mercenary and let it deal with the aggro while you're working on the damage.

 

You can become a bishop mage if you want to solo well as a mage and not rely on mercs nor be as squishy as mainstream mage builds, you just need a bs character to do refines for additional damage reductions and also a level 180+ character for mirage evasion, and here is a link to the guide, and as others said there is a reset event going on so use the time wisely ^^ https://toramonline.com/index.php?threads/bishop-mage-guide.52037/

 

I don't think the OP has access to Mirage Evasion yet as it requires level 180 to unlock.
Fight bosses on easy mode, Venena can be a handful especially for your level and experience even in that difficulty. I suggest taking your time while fighting her. Finale can do high enough damage to get you through it.

As they have said take time to learn the boss pattern and timing of finale. If venena shoots laser should give you enough time to cast on the pillars.

Although I would suggest playing with real players in such raid bosses. Join a newbie friendly active and helpful guild, or look for parties. I'm sure you'll come across players who are willing to help out.

 

BEfore we head into these 10 simple steps do Main Quest on Easy mode until you reach exactly level 160 use your magic arrows, javelin and basic attacks. Or grind in Venena.

So you want the best way to Progress in game?
So you want to Cast Finale without DYING!!
10 steps to use your mage effectively:


1- Reset your stats and apply LUK>INT ( max LUK personal stat and then the rest in INT)

2-Learn the following skills:
MAGIC Tree: Storm lvl 10, Charge lvl10, Maximizer lvl 10, Impact level lvl 7 or more.
Battle Skill Tree: just the ones that give MATK.
Survival Tree: Drop Rate Level 10, Increase your mana skill...
Support tree: Brave AURA LEVEL 10 just this skill
Smith Tree: Process Materials lvl 1-10 you choose


3-Head to Consignement Board buy the following:

-1x Sacred Jewel
-2x Mardula Wing

4-Head to any NPC!!! Blacksmith!!!.
Make Magic Device> Warrior Angel Armor( yes despite having an armor in it's name it is a weapon)
Any High atk magic device with LIGHT ELEMENT will do , if u still can't aquire this MD you will have to disgrace yourself with a Light element Staff *spits*

5-Leave your current Guild and Join a Guild that has A Merchant NPC in their Guild Bar so you can sell your items. no one can stop you now (ง ° ͜ ʖ °)ง, r..i..p. friends/nakama, you are now a soldier with no emotion

6-Put the..........oh......NVM

7-Clear your bag, deposit everything except, Warrior Angel [device], Armor, Additional and Ring

8 -Set this combo:
Magic Impact>storm (smite)>Charge (swift)

Set Shorcuts for:
Magic Impact, Charge, Brave Aura

9-Now head to Hora Diomedea>Ultimea South East Sewer use chat and shout: LFP JELLY MD STORM!!
after joining a party say something nice so to prevent Kicks.
Use brave aura
Start Spaming the combo i taught you in Step 8

10- Farm until your bag is full then Process ONLY!!! the Ribbons, and Zombie Cake.
Farm AGAIN until your bag is full.
It takes aprox 15 minutes per round so try to achieve

Press Menu>Terminal>Go To Guild Bar, find the merchant NPC Sell Everything!! except your equipment and you will be getting around 45.000-60.000 spina per 16 minutes, depending on your efficacy to process materials.
Now look at that you earned 50.000 spina in 15 minutes.
Stay in there until you reach exactly 1.500.000 SPina then come back here for the next steps.

Yeah i havent got the magic evasion yet.
I've read the guide, it looks good. However I'm not sure if thats the direction i want, the reason I'm considering to change the class and or asking is because the ability of other classes to deal high dmg while being mobile.

I've searched for a few guide and basically there are two types, one is a critical finale, so you strive for 400 crt. And the other one is burst type, in which you prioritize cspd first(with buff and high what was the skill name i forgot). Kindly correct me if I'm wrong.

Burst, while is kind of mobile, need a high investment into elemental equip right, so for a newbs like me the crit route seems more feasible since i mostly can go to whatever boss i want.

I'll look at a few references first before deciding.

I only have a lv 90 farmer but the LUK is not max, is that enough?

Also....through a series of fortunate boss runs, i have 1.7m, what is the next step senpai

 

Since you have not unlock mirage evasion, you need to time your finale at venena.
Or just use smite storm as the previous post suggested.
If you have saved some spina, u can ask your guildmates to make a critical staff with matk10% int4% cdmg10% cdmg20 crit21. This staff can be used on finale mage and your future crit finale build.

Or if u really need a mobile crit mage build, u can use element slash from magic warrior skill. This skill has an element advantage from changing sub md, just like arrow on bow. It cost 200 mp and you can just spam it.

I know the steps are not in order.
Step 2-Now you need to learn Chrusher Skills, Wizard Skills, unfortunanately i am farming in venena and i have forgotten at wich level you can unlock the skills:
Annihilator (chrusher ) and Blizzard ( Wizard), max these 2 skills level 10. If by any chance you can aquire these skills

Step 1- Buy a 5th anniv VII MD LIGHT ELEMENT +20% damage to dark INT%MATAK% +B something like that
or a 5th anniv VII KNUCKLE LIGHT ELEMENT +20% damage INT%MATAK%+B if u are able to learn Annihilator if not stick to the MD

Step 3- go back again to farming jellys with your new found power to 1 hit the jelly by simply casting storm, yes you are doing it again this time you have a vision! this time !!! you are going to.......
STEP 4 - UPGRADE YOURSELF INTO A KILLING MACHINE NOT A BLODDY FARMER
Step 4.5 reset your stats and skills, follow a mage build with staff in it. lurk the forum
Step 5 buy 5th anniversary VII +S Staff and a bark mail armor
GO BACK TO VENENA WITH YOUR NEW FOUND POWER DON'T WORRY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CAST FINALE WITHOUT GETTING HIT TRUST ME.

So assuming i have blizzard storm and annihilator how do you use it? Just use them in turn with storm?

 

Best staff you can buy is 5th anniv VII staff.
Search staff with +b or even +s if u can, but with clean stats so u can fill it latter.
Make sure the staff have 340 atk or more.

OR

You can buy knuckle for farming purpose. It's good for raising funds for your future build if u got bored of current build.

But don't get trapped on the farming cycle because u need at least one lvl capped character at toram. This one character will unlock all skills and possibly resolve all problem that new players have.

 

My bad kouhai the final edit did not come through u need magic blade wich you can buy the book in board.
Then max level 10 a COnversion, do this if u buy a knuckle

But not sure all those equips will fit into 1.7m..
Pretty sure +S refine itself if more towards 2.5-3m, 5th anniv staff VII(depending on atk) can be 1m+..
N stats? Thats an additional 1m..so minimum of 5.6-6m ._.) N that's just staff, OP still got more stuff to buy, no?
....Magic.w.book is worth 800k rn ._.)

 

I do find +s clean staff at 2.5m.
U can ask guildmates to refine +b for an affordable price.
Clean +0 staff is pretty cheap.

You need a nice guild tho.

But it was fully statted and refined to +S ..n atk was 340+ (probably 1s too, but forgot)

 

This thing made me cringe so hard. LUK stat doesn't even affect anything except drop and +A to +S refining, and OP wasn't asking for farmer build.
